Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Launchpad — plain and simple.
We know you might have questions before taking that first step. Here are the ones we hear most often. If you don't find what you're looking for, just get in touch — we're happy to chat.
Launchpad is a free employability and personal development programme for people aged 16 and over in the Scottish Borders. It's a small, friendly group programme that helps you build confidence, explore your strengths, and take steps towards work, volunteering, or further learning — at your own pace.
Launchpad is open to anyone aged 16 or over who lives in the Scottish Borders and feels ready to take a small step forward. You don't need any qualifications or work experience. We welcome people who have been out of work for a while, those dealing with health or personal challenges, and anyone who just needs a bit of support and encouragement to get started.
Not at all. Launchpad isn't about jumping straight into a job. It's about building your confidence and finding out what's possible for you. Some people join when they're a long way from feeling work-ready — and that's absolutely fine. We meet you where you are and go at your pace.
You need to be 16 or over to join Launchpad. There's no upper age limit — we welcome people of all ages.
We currently run Launchpad groups in Galashiels and Hawick. If you're not sure whether we can reach you, just get in touch and we'll do our best to help.
The programme runs over 10 sessions. Sessions are relaxed and informal — there's no pressure to rush through anything. The pace is designed to give you time to reflect, connect with others in the group, and build on what you're learning.
When you get in touch, one of our team will have a friendly, informal chat with you — no forms to fill in on the spot, no pressure. We'll find out a bit about where you're at and what you're hoping for, and we'll explain how Launchpad works. From there, we'll agree together whether it feels like a good fit.
Yes. If you're working with a support worker, key worker, or another professional, they can refer you to Launchpad on your behalf. We also welcome self-referrals — you can contact us directly without going through anyone else.
No. Launchpad is completely free to join. There are no hidden costs, no materials to buy, and no fees of any kind.
You'll be supported throughout the programme by our friendly team. As well as the group sessions, you'll have access to one-to-one support to help you think through your next steps — whether that's finding work, volunteering, further learning, or something else entirely. We'll help you make a plan that works for you.
